Last year at the Worlds, we finished second in the first race and were poised to win the US-1 crown. The fear set in that a boat racing with 13 year old Weismann Drysump Drives was going to win the World Championship. Then incredibly, our only boat was found to be 3" too short and the J.D. Byrider cat was banned from winning the Championship; even after it had been teched at the World's and all year long to be legal!
This year competing in the inaugural Pro Series Championship, the JD Byrider cat has been the boat to beat. It was decided among the racers that the first race of the three race World Championships would go towards the National US-1 Championship.
In choppy water Tony Marcantonio had a perfect boat for the conditions and he played with the current US-1 Reliable cat, keeping pace with them until they broke.

Way out front of the field and bored, they got word from the helicopter that they were closing in on the 850 hp cats, so they set out to run down the 850 hp class which had started over a minute ahead of the 750 hp class. And as they did in Orange Beach they started to catch them and actually caught and passed veteran racer Billy Mauf in an factory 850 hp boat without running the extra laps!
Tony Marcantonio and Mark Kowalski cruised to their first US-1 Championship with our original 14 year old Weismann #6 Dry sump Drives! We congratulate them and their team for their job well done!

It has been seven long years since Weismann Marine has been legal to compete for the National and World Championships! The last year was in 2000 and it was with these very same drives on the Don Q cat of Felix Serralles that won that US-1 Championship.
The top was taken by www.freezeframevideio.net in Key West during the first race.
The middle shot was taken by www.H2Ofullthrottle.com in Orange Beach.
