In a fast and furious race that entertained a nearly sold out crowd of 9,000 fans packed in the purpose-built LA Fairplex-Pomona CORR race track, Rick Huseman won his second Pro 4 race of the season, regaining the overall 2008 championship point’s lead.
Rick was able to avoid the carnage
in the first few laps of Sunday’s race and worked his way quickly through
the field of Pro 4’s. By lap 2 he reeled in leader Johnny Greaves and stayed
on his bumper until the caution flag came out on lap 8.
When the green flag dropped Huseman took the inside line and ducked under
the leader as they headed into Turn Two. The Weismann Unlocker hooked up
nicely on the asphalt and allowed Rick to pick his line thru the turn.
“I was waiting for the door to open and our race strategy was to be patient and wait until the final third of the race to make our charge, but when Johnny pulled to the outside, it was evident he had a problem and we took the opportunity to jump out in front and run in clean air.”
Carl Renezeder began closing the gap each lap as he pushed his Lucas Oil truck wildly around the track. On lap 16, they came out of the deep hole in Turn 4 side-by-side, flying high off the exit jump, each pushing their trucks to their limits high into the air.
Carl came down on his front end and
Rick slammed on his brakes and swerved left to avoid Carl truck. Carl's
left rear was deflated as his truck came down on Rick's bumper, effectively
ruining his race. Carl later protested, but Rick raced him clean and didn't
cause Carl's near rollover or flat.
From then on it was smooth sailing to the checkered flag and the 5th win of
the season out of 6 races for Weismann Drivetrains in Pro-4!
“The #3 truck survived where other trucks did not and this win is sweet. Heading into the six-week summer break with two wins and leading the series point’s race is important for our team,” explained Rick. “I’m very proud of our guys. They continue to dig hard each and every race and they’ve given me a great truck to race. We’ll take this momentum into the break and we have plans to come off the summer break and run even faster than we have so far this season.”
Curt Leduc ran a strong race against Scott Douglas, before getting bumped by Scott in the final turn, then spun around by Steve Barlow, demoting him to 4th. Steve went on to finish second and Scott was third. In what would have been a 1-2-3 Weismann Drivetrain finish, we ended up with 1-3-4.
This is typical of the wild racing in this sport, it makes for a great spectacle for the fans, but for the drivers, teams, sponsors and manufactures, it can be quite frustrating!

Rick's truck runs a standard Weismann 5 speed Imsa Transmission that has been slightly modified for Pro-4. We converted the Shuttle shifter into a Sequential, removed the 2WD Quick Change cover and bolted a custom 4WD Quick Change Transfer Case. And driving the front wheels is our innovative "Weismann Unlocker". The "Unlocker" greatly reduces the rotational mass of the drivetrain by eliminating the need for any sort of center diff or clutch. The "Unlocker" provides maximum torque transfer to the wheels with traction lick the standard "Weismann Locker". However when the truck loads on the front wheels, no torque is transfered back through the drivetrain, thus there is no drivetrain binding. The "Unlocker" allows the truck to rotate easily and acts like the truck has power steering.
Rick Huseman, Curt Le Duc, and 2006 Pro-4 Champion Carl Renezeder have all been racing with the "Unlocker".
