Chris Rado and his WORLD Racing team finally crushed the factory GM team to record his first win of the year in the "Battle of the Imports" in Atco New Jersey. Plagued by slipping clutches all year, the team installed a new clutch to try to harness the 1,600 hp Scion tC turbo charged engine.
During the first round of qualifying, Chris staged the Weismann driven Scion against GM's Gary Gardella in the Chevy Cobalt. When the lights dropped, the tC ripped right out of the starting line, but the clutch started to slip in second gear. Chris still ran a 7.56 at 191 mph to qualify #1, and he had the highest qualifying run of all the car competing at Atco all day including the RWD cars!
"The engine basically laughed at the clutch. Once again we underestimated how amazing the motor of the tC really is." - said Chris.
Chris ended up in the finals against Gary Gardella again. They lined up after the brunouts, the lights came down, and Rado was gone! Chris' reaction time was a .045 to Gardella's .162 !
As soon as Rado's engine hit 3000 rpm, he could feel the clutch starting to slip, and as a result he couldn't make as much boost and he wasn't able to put down all the power he had.But it didn't matter, Chris lead Gary all the way thru each trap to win with a 7.504 s pass at 194.16 mph to Gary's 7.555 s pass at 200.00 mph!
