First race of the season in Evansville, In. and Jean Theoret piloted the sleek Miss Beacon to win both the heat race 3A and the final round on sunday! In extremely rough waters, the U-37 hit the start finished line in 5th place on a 5 wide start, but by the time the boats entered turn two, Theoret was passing the FormulaBoat.com hydro for the lead!

Jean accelerated hard coming out of the turn and bounced down the back straightaway. Leading into turn four, it still looked like a close 3 way battle for the lead.
Steve David in the Oh Boy! Oberto hydro in the middle and Mike Allen in the FormulaBoats.com hydro on the outside made a race out of it for almost one lap, or so it seemed, but by the start/finish line for the start of lap two, Jean was already gone!
Jean continued to out accelerate the field throughout the 5 lap final, taking the checkered flag for the first time at the "Thunder on the Ohio" race. Crew Chief Scott "Pyro" Rainey changed our gears no less than three times over the weekend, to dial the U-37 Hydro to the ever worsening water conditions! Our hats off to the Miss Beacon crew!

The 3A Heat had a great start. There was three different leaders before the exit pin of the first turn. Jean Theoret in the U-37 grabbed lane one, but Jeff Bernard in the U-5 hit the start line first. Theoret grabbed the lead back going into turn one, but the boat bounced and David Bryant in the U-10 grabbed the lead out of turn two.
Theoret ran the U-37 hard and reeled Bryant back in and came up along the inside of him going into turn two. Bryant closed the door on Jean and then he got caught in the U-10's roostertail slowing him down until the engine relit. Bryant crossed the finish line first, but took an extra lap in case there was a penalty on the U-10 as he closed out Theoret.
It turns out there was a penalty on Bryant for encroachment, costing the U-10 team a lap and a win. That left Theoret with his first win of the weekend and a spot in the finals.
