Friday night Round 13
The Traxxas TORC
Series held two phenomenal rounds of racing held at Perris Auto Speedway in
California. Daytime temps reached 118 under the black Monster tent of Rick
Huseman but by 7 pm temperatures and a light breeze made the evening ideal
for the 12,000 off road fans in attendance.
In Round 13 Scott Douglas dominated the Pro 4 class with a solid first place
finish using his Weismann Unlocker and Underdrive. Scott battled hard on the
very narrow track with Kyle LeDuc until LeDuc broke from the contact with
Douglas.
After starting near the tail end of the field, Rick Huseman moved up but got bumped into a K rail and put the truck up on it's side. After getting rolling again, the right rear tire eventually ripped itself from the rim and Rick barely managed to finish the race. Kyle was Rick Huseman's main rival for the championship, but Rick could only gain 1 point on Kyle to put him 22 point ahead.
Saturday night Round 14
Rick Huseman beat the Pro 4 class into submission with a huge truck lead at the checkered with all of his fenders on the truck, and his 6th Oakley Bomb Run Award for the fastest lap!
Rick started from the 6th spot and jumped 2 spots on the first lap by kept out of everyone's way and driving around the outside of them. The next lap he lept past two more spots and set his sights on leader Scott Douglas. Lap 3 Rick caught the fleeting Douglas and on lap 4 dispensed with him, ripping the inside through the whoop section into the hairpin.
By lap 10 and the manditory caution, Rick had the main straight away lead over Douglas and the rest of the field. On the restart Rick just left them behind and cruised to the finish in dominate style. Douglas tried everything he could do just to try and hang with him, but could do nothing but watch Rick drive away!
Barring any crazy
disaster, Huseman has almost surely secured the 2009 championship with that win.
Kyle LeDuc took second and trails behind Huseman in the points. Scott Douglas
finished 3rd in the last couple of laps.
The next and final stop on the 2009 TORC race schedule is The Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track in Las Vegas, Nevada. The action will take place over two evenings, October 23rd and 24th. Champions will be crowned at this event, so it is one that you will not want to miss!
