Pete Steuri wins inaugural "Rice Bowl"!

November 17-18, 2005

Pete Steuri has won the first Top Alcohol Motorcycle Series event in Fontana, Ca. Pete broke his personal best time in the final round against Steve Killingstad with his first sub-seven second pass at 6.893 s. Steve is riding the bike that Rice used to race before he built the green machine, and it was the first bike to get the KZ3 (below) in 1995. 10 years later, it is still the original transmission in the bike now!

Steve Rice created a new series for the myriad moth-balled bikes out here on the west coast called Top Alcohol Motorcycle. Steve got together with the Pacific Street Car Association (PSCA) and World Finals Top Alcohol Motorcycle was contested for the first time at the California Speedway.

“I began putting this event together about 3 months ago when gasoline and diesel prices got so high that you couldn’t afford to drive across the street” said Rice. “I got together with Mel from the PSCA and explained our racing dilemma here on the west coast; he was open to the idea of adding our bikes to his already large street car program. I wanted a program that would be open to all of the open class bikes here on this side of the country. I contacted racers and potential contingency sponsors for the event. It all went off without a hitch, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.”

Actually, had Steve won the event, he might have been happier. He was taken out in the semi final round, when a fellow rider stagged late (he knew he couldn't beat him), and left Steve hung out to dry on the two step. When the lights went green, Steve's bike bogged.

Asked why he decided to create the class of Top Alcohol Motorcycle and not just staying with the already existing Funnybike and Pro-Mod classes. He replied “Although the bikes are the same we need to have a class that is identifiable by all race fans not just motorcycle fans. It also needs to be saleable to racetracks we will run at and organizations we will run with.  I hope the name change will also give the racer a feeling of pride when they realize that their bikes are ‘top’ not just ‘funny’.”
